From the bowels of the Hogan Stand in Croke Park, aka the Player's Lounge


It's quiet now that the angry journos have left the building. The newspaper and radio reporters weren't a bit happy when they were told that Paul Galvin was not going to be interviewed. The Kerryman, fashion student, media celebrity and whatever else, posed for publicity photos for the launch of the Ulster Bank Sigerson and Fitzgibbon Cups but didn't want to talk afterwards. 


Mind you, I heard him on the radio with Ryan Tubridy on the way down from Belfast, but maybe he thought he was on safe ground there. There's a few stories around about Galvin, as usual, so maybe he was being coy about the rumour linking him with St Vincent's and his clearance to play for DIT in the Sigerson. 


That's fair enough but if you're not going to do interviews then the journos deserve to be told in advance. Some of them had to travel a fair bit to get to Croker and they have to tell their bosses that they cannot deliver. 


Paul is about as popular with the hacks right now as Richard Keyes. There's some seriously divided opinions out there about the Kerryman with a lot of nasty comments flying about but personally, I think he's funny and a bit different. We shouldn't hammer him for that. He's a character and a bit of a lad. So what? He makes life interesting.  


Update - Wednesday evening in Ballykelly

Mr Galvin turned up at the Division 1 Football Final between UCC and DIT. His new team-mates destroyed the Cork lads. Video to follow... see it here and/or join me on Facebook

It should be the GAA's responsibility, not the amateur player’s responsibility to inform the jurnos that players will or will not being doing interviews. All required was a phone call the day before to confirm this. Player’s don’t have to talk.

To be fair, the organisers did contact Paul and thought he was ok about doing interviews. He seemed to have a change of heart on the day.
