The Rock Visits Newry

9th Apr 2011

Diarmuid 'The Rock' O'Sullivan took a training session with the South Down hurlers at the Abbey school in Newry on Saturday April 9.

Did you know that the big man from Cloyne captained Cork at the age of 19? He also backed the winner of the National today.

Diarmuid, who also visited Warrenpoint and Castlewellan, is passionate about spreading the hurling gospel. He didnt' make himself too popular a few years ago when he told the GAA that they would have been better spending the 'fireworks money' on promoting hurling.

He retired from the Cork county team in 2009 because of the new compulsory helmet rule.
